Superliga Weekend Preview

It may be Valentines Day weekend, but love will definitely not be in the air when Benfica hosts FC Porto.

The Portuguese Superliga title could be decided on Sunday when league leaders FC Porto travel to Lisbon to take on third placed Benifca.

Porto currently sit seven points clear of second-placed Sporting Lisbon and nine points clear of Benfica.

Mathematically, even if Porto wins on Sunday they cannot clinch the title; but realistically they would be the heavy favorites, as they don't have to play Sporting Lisbon or Benfica anymore this season.

If Benfica wins, they would blow the Superliga title race wide open again as they would trail Porto by six points and Sporting Lisbon could close the gap to four points with a win over Moreirense on Friday.

Porto will be without Russian international Dimitri Alenitchev for this contest as he injured himself in training on Friday and has been ruled out for Sunday.

Benfica's Nuno Gomes is almost fit but will not be in the lineup on Sunday, he is targeting next week's game as a possible return date.

Sporting Lisbon know that they must win against Moreirense this weekend. Joao Pinto is out with a dislocated shoulder and Elpidio Silva picked up a knock in training.

Manager Fernando Santos is expected to partner Clayton and Niculae upfront in attack.

Fourth placed Beira Mar visit the struggling Pacos Ferreira in what should be an easy win for Antonio Sousa's squad.

Braga trail Beira Mar by just a single point but they are in tough on Sunday when they host Maritimo. New signing Daniel Kenedy will face his old club for the first time.

Elsewhere, Boavista travel to Coimbra to take on Academica, Estrela Amadora host Gil Vicente and Leiria entertains Nacional.

There are also two games to be played on Monday as Rio Ave hosts Alverca and Belenenses visit Vitoria Guimaraes to round out week 22.
