Botafogo 4-1 Bangu

4 goals from Botafogo were unable to put the Alvinegros in the semi-finals of the first round of the Carioca championship. Botafogo depended on the match result between Vasco da Gama and Americano. The game ended 0-0 and both teams were qualified.

A strong ofensive game by Botafogo gave no chance to Bangu, who were trapped in their defensive half, being unable to attempt to strike at Jefferson's goal. Bota went to half-time leading 1-0, but had missed several changes. On the second half the team attacked from the beginning and scored the second with 5 minutes of play. After this goal, the match rate dropped and Bangu pulled one back, only to see Botafogo score two more.

Vasco da Gama and Americano finished 1st and 2nd on group 1, and qualified for the semi-finals of Taça Guanabara (first round of the Carioca Championship). They will face the 1st and 2nd of group 2 (Fluminense and Flamengo). The winners will meet in the final that will decide the winner of the Taça Guanabara. In the Taça Rio (second round of the Carioca Championship) the teams will meet again in the same groups, and in the same system.

The winner of the Taça Guanabara will meet the winner of the Taça Rio, to decide the winner of the Carioca Championship. If the same team wins both rounds (Taça Guanabara and Taça Rio), it will automatically win the Carioca Championship.
