River Plate prepares 2005

River Plate has traveled to the city of Mendoza to prepare the Clausura Tournament and the eagerly seeked Copa Libertadores, amisdt the rumors and confirmations of transfers. While it is yet to be confirmed the widely spread transfer of Maxi López, Javier Mascherano and Luis González to Europe, the signing of Ernesto Farias and Ariel Ortega seem certain by the minute.

Ariel Ortega

The return of "El Burrito" Ortega is very welcomed, both by fans and players, like Marcelo Gallardo, that already expressed publicly his content with the possibility of playing again with Ortega. Besides, Ortega would join River with the Apertura Title in the bag (with Newell's), wich might be a motivation factor, both for him and the other players.

Ernesto Farías

Ernesto "Tecla" Farías, now playing in italian side Palermo, has been targeted by River for a while. The signing failed a year ago, when Farías was playing for Estudiantes La Plata, but everything is seeming to lead to the inclusion of the player in River Plate.

Nelson Cuevas

Amogst the confirmations, Horacio Ameli and Oscar Ahumada return to River, from America (Mexico) and Wolfsburg (Germany), and Frederico Dominguez signs from mexican side Santos Laguna. In the opposite direction, Cristian Nasuti and Gabriel Pereyra will be loaned to mexican teams Morelia and Cruz Azul, while the paraguayan Nelson Cuevas continues his career in also mexican side Pachuca.

Meanwhile, River has scheduled friendly games for the month of January. The team will play in the summer tournament, against Independiente (15/1), San Lorenzo (19/1), Boca Juniors (22/1) and Racing (26/01). Also, the traditional "Revenge Cup" against Boca Juniors is scheduled for the 30th.

As for official matches, River will debut in the Clausura Tournament as a visitor, traveling to Santa Fé, to face Colón (13/02). Internationally, River will start the pursuit for the Copa Libertadores in Ecuador against Olmedo, on February 23rd. The program of the most important club competition in South America will be posted here in FU, before the begining of the tournament, scheduled for the first day of February.
