Van Buyten signs for HSV!

The classy Belgian international defender Daniel van Buyten will be a HSV player from July 1st 2004! The final details regarding his move from Olympique Marseille were tied up on Saturday (12.6.04) by the HSV boss Hoffmann, sport director Beiersdorfer and the French club.

26 year old van Buyten , who has been on a loan spell at Kevin Keegan's Manchester City club, will sign a four year deal at HSV.

Number one choice

The player is delighted that the move has finally been arranged: "I really wanted to move to HSV. The talks I held with their club officials were very convincing. I believe things are happening at the club and I look forward to contributing to it all," said an obviously delighted van Buyten after the clubs had finally reached agreement.

Delight all round

"We have finally managed to find a first choice and worthy replacement for Nico Hoogma. With the signings of Mpenza, Lauth and now Van Buyten, we have considerably improved the quality of our squad," said the HSV boss Hoffmann. Klaus Toppmöller is over the moon: "Daniel was my absolute first choice player for central defence. I'm over the moon that he's joining HSV. If it was up to me, I'd start training tomorrow," enthused Toppi.
