Fyssas is Benfica first winter transfer

SL Benfica have agreed to sign Panathinaikos FC left-back Panagiotis Fyssas following the expiry of the Greek international's contract with the Athens club.
The Lisbon club confirmed that Fyssas would be in Portugal by the end of December, ready to sign when the transfer window opens on 1 January. However, he will not be able to take part in Benfica's UEFA Cup campaign, having already played four times in the UEFA Champions League games for Panathinaikos this season.

Coach José António Camacho will hope to field Fyssas in Benfica's 4 January derby against Sporting Clube de Portugal, provided that the club can complete his registration in time. Portuguese law dictates that players must be registered three days before a match. The first working day of 2004 will be Friday 2 January, just two days before the fixture at the new Luz Stadium.
