Copa Libertadores 2004 Group Stage Draw


36 teams will fight to succeed Boca Juniors

Yeasterday took place the draw for the group stage of the 2004 Copa de Libertadores, and River Plate knows some of its opponents. Los Milionarios will play Libertad, of Paraguay, Deportivo Táchira, of Venezuela, and then second representant of Colombia (yet to be defined*), in group 6, for a place in the first knock-out round.

The first stage is composed of 9 groups of 4 teams each. The winners of each group and the best 5 second placed qualify for the next stage. The ohter 4 second placed will play a one knock-out game, to define the last two in the 1/8 finals.

The competition will start in February.


*The second representant from Colombia will be decided on Sunday, after the Colombian Championship Final between Deportivo Cali and Tolima.
