Elano lands at Shakhtar

FC Shakhtar Donetsk have made their third Brazilian signing of the winter break with a €7.6m swoop for Santos FC playmaker Elano Blumer.

Five-year deal
The 23-year-old international has agreed a five-year contract with the Ukrainian club and will link up with countrymen Jadson and Iván Saraiva, who moved to Shakhtar last month. Both Elano, who had captured the interest of Europe's leading clubs, and Jadson were included in the Brazilian league's team of the year for 2004.

Title success
Elano, who also played for Guarani FC and SC Internacional, helped Santos win two Brazilian titles, scoring 33 goals in 131 games for the club. He represented his country at the Olympic Games and claimed his first full cap in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Colombia last October.
