RKC Waalwijk 1 - 4 PSV

PSV stay on top of the Holland Casino Eredivisie, following an efficient 1-4 win over RKC Waalwijk. Man-of-the-match was undoubtedly Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who netted three of the four goals. PSV captain Mark van Bommel was also a prominent
player: he gave three assists.

Vennegoor of Hesselink has been a prolific top scorer since the restart after the mid-winter break by scoring six goals. He scored a double against NAC; he found the net once in the Cup tie against FC Volendam last Wednesday and he was successful on as many as three occasions today. It may not have been the greatest of games, but PSV are still on course with yet another win. After the winter break PSV have scored four goals in every game, so that they have netted twelve goals so far. PSV keeper Gomes conceded only one goal and these statistics speak for themselves.

RKC were on top on twenty minutes, when Rick Hoogendorp scored the opening goal. PSV gave the RKC forwards too much space and produced quite a few inaccurate passes. The pace of the game was low and Hoogendorp was granted much time to fire home1-0. The visitors got back into the game at the half hour mark; DaMarcus Beasley cancelled out Hoogendorp’s opener on 35 minutes, when he made use of the space he got. Three minutes later PSV took the lead, when Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored his first goal of the afternoon; 1-2.

PSV increased their advantage after the break. Latest signing Robert, who watched the game from the grandstand, saw 'VOH' score another goal. Van Bommel delivered a fine centre on 69 minutes, Beasley slightly touched the ball and Vennegoor of Hesselink cleverly rounded off this flowing move; 1-3. He took his season’s tally to twelve goals by heading home a free kick; 1-4.

So PSV coasted to a comfortable win in Waalwijk after a rather tentative start. Vennegoor of Hesselink proved once again that he is in great shape and his desire to score goals seems to be insatiable. His drive has only been enhanced by the signing of Roberts, or so it looks like.

Young-Pyo Lee was dropped from the side, as he was troubled by a high temperature. The South Korean was the only PSV player that made an appearance in all fixtures this season.

Now that PSV have done this afternoon's job in a business-like way, the league encounter against RBC Roosendaal in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium on Wednesday night will be uppermost in their minds.

Goals: 20´ Hoogendorp (1-0); 35´ Beasley (1-1), 38´, 69´, 82´Vennegoor of Hesselink (1-4);
