Henchoz handed Celtic chance

Swiss international defender Stéphane Henchoz has left UEFA Champions League contenders Liverpool FC to join Scottish champions Celtic FC for the rest of the season.

Cup treble
The 30-year-old, who has won 70 caps for his country and appeared against Croatia and France at UEFA EURO 2004™, joined Liverpool from Blackburn Rovers FC for just over €5m in summer 1999. He went on to become an integral part of Gérard Houllier's side, helping Liverpool win the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and English League Cup in 2001 and making 135 league appearances over six seasons.

Three appearances
However, although he also helped his side to another League Cup success in 2003, Henchoz has fallen out of favour under new manager Rafael Benítez, and has only appeared for the first team three times in the current campaign, all in the League Cup. His contract with the English Premiership side was due to expire at the end of the current campaign.
