PSV 1 - 0 RKC Waalwijk

PSV bid a fond farewell to Chairman Harry van Raaij, following a narrow 1-0 win over RKC Waalwijk Most of the cheering took place after the average game, when the crowd were given an opportunity to wave off their beloved chairman.

PSV had brought about some changes to the team that played the last few games. Hiddink gave the Brazilian Leandro and the young Peruvian Jefferson Farfan a place in the starting line-up. Phillip Cocu made a come back, now that he was not troubled by pneumonia any longer and Csaba Feher made his debut in the starting line up as full right back defender instead of Kasper Bogelund.

RKC were determined to give PSV a hard time and played a compact, well-organized defence. There was a lot of action in front of the goal defended by Khalid Sinouh, but in spite of a lot of efforts, PSV were not capable of creating any clear-cut chances. It resulted into a poor game that could not inspire the home crowd. RKC coach Erwin Koeman had already announced before the game that he would be delighted with one point and the 0-0 half-time score was not a proper introduction to Harry van Raaij's

One minute aftre the break the deadlock wasd broken, though. Vennegoor of Hesselink headed home a Mark van Bommel free kick at the near post; 1-0. RKC now had to move forward, but the visitors could never dominate and needed quite a few fouls to hold on. In the final stages the lackluster character of the game was not interrupted by sparkling moments, either. RKC Waalwijk need not be ashamed of a slender 1-0 defeat in Eindhoven. But this match will surely not be remembered as one of the highlights of the season.

PSV can now focus on the opening game of the UEFA Champions League tournament. They will travel to London, where they will meet Arsenal at Highbury on Tuesday night.
