Veteran Maldini to battle on

AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini has signed a new contract committing himself to the Italian champions until 2006.

Story confirmed
Last month the 35-year-old defender revealed that there was an agreement with the club to renew his previous contract that was due to expire in 2005, for a further season. Today Milan confirmed the deal through their official website.

Incredible record
Maldini is in his 20th season with the Rossoneri, following his debut against Udinese Calcio in January 1985. He has won seven Italian titles and four European Champion Clubs' Cups. Now retired from international football, he earned a record 126 caps for Italy but national coach Giovanni Trapattoni is trying to convince him to make a comeback for UEFA EURO 2004™.
