HSV chasing Emile Mpenza

Mpenza (25) was part of the prolific striking duo featuring Denmark's Ebbe sand at Schalke from 1999 until 2003 in Gelsenkirchen. Off the pitch escapades by the player forced the Schake manager Rudi Assauer to terminate Mpenza's contract with immediate effect. Mpenza has a price tag of around 2,5 million Euros, a sum which HSV would have to transfer onto Standard Lüttich's account...they in turn, must pass the money on to Schalke.

"Nothing is settled yet, but Emile is a good player who could help us right away," says Beiersdorfer, who held discussions on Sunday with Lüttich officials and the HSV boss Hoffmann who said: "Things are looking good for us." Talks were held with Mpenza on Sunday. Last week the player was in Hamburg for initial talks.
