Bundesliga Weekend Preview

A bizarre proposal has stirred a bit of controversy prior to Saturday's Bundesliga encounter between strugglers Hertha Berlin and defending champions Bayern Munich.

A Berlin radio station has reportedly offered 1 million euros to any Bayern player who scores an own goal.

Hertha are currently sitting second from the bottom in the 18-team Bundesliga and relegation to the second division is a realistic possibility.

Second-placed Bayern are nine points back of leaders Werder Bremen with just 10 games remaining.

Sixth placed Schalke host Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

The visitors have moved out of the relegation zone but are in tough against a superior Schalke side.

Stuttgart should pick up an easy three points when they visit relegation bound Cologne.

To add to Cologne's misery, influential midfielder Alexander Voigt is injured and will not play this weekend.

Fifth placed Bayer Leverkusen is away to Hansa Rostock.

The home side is fresh off an impressive 3-3 result with Bayern Munich last weekend and should prove to be formidable opponents for Leverkusen this weekend.

Borussia Moenchengladbach crashed out of the German Cup semi finals this week and will be looking to make amends for their surprising exit when they host Hamburg on Saturday.

Highflying Bochum will be looking for another smash-grab win when they visit Kaiserslautern.

Kaiserslautern is improving and have no major injury concerns headed into this match, the last time these to sides played Bochum easily won 4-0.

1860 Munich will host Freiburg on Sunday in a must win match for the home side.

1860 Munich have not lived up to expectations this season and currently occupy 14th spot in spot in the table, a far cry from their goal of qualifying for Europe.

The other match on Sunday sees Wolfsburg play host to first placed Werder Bremen.

Wolfsburg has no major injury problems for this match and is hoping to delay Bremen's title celebrations.

While there is no real cause for concern in Werder Bremen's camp, they did need extra time to move past second division VfB Luebeck on Tuesday in the German Cup semi-finals.
