When, in October 2004, Leonardo Astrada was having problems in finding left backs to line-up, Lucas Mareque was seen as another resource player, brought from the reserve team. But Mareque grabbed the oportunity, and with a great performance, was flagged as man of the match. After that, the short and unknown player lined-up in the starting eleven until the end of the Apertura Tournament, playing all 90 minutes of the matches, and scoring once. In this year's Clausura, he has been eqqually sharing the starting call with more experienced Frederico Dominguez.
Lucas Mareque is another product of the River's cantera, a very agressive player, with great working rate. As a modern defender, Mareque easily joins the team's offensive play, and his left foot can do wonders in front of goal.
