Fenerbahçe 1-0 B.B. Ankaraspor
Three significant points were taken from Büyükşehir Belediyesi Ankaraspor with one goal from Marcio Nobre. The margin should have been larger and a spectacular save from Rüştü Reçber in the final minutes made sure 1-0 was the final score. Selçuk Şahin was sent off with around 15 minutes to the end of the match.
Changes were made to the side by Christoph Daum, who benched Fabio Luciano and Tuncay Şanlı and played Önder Turacı at right back, Deniz Barış and Servet Çetin in the centre of the defence and Ümit Özat on the left. Marco Aurelio, Selçuk Şahin and Serkan Balcı formed an aggressive midfield to make Alex de Souza`s job easier, who played behind Marcio Nobre and Pierre van Hooijdonk, two players that didn`t start against Olympique Lyon in midweek.
Önder looked impressive from the right despite playing a rare game since signing in the summer. His conviction and confidence was clear to see and he delivered some good crosses into the area. Alex was also effective ans showed creativity around the box. His cross to van Hooijdonk was nearly converted by the Dutchman but his header went narrowly wide.
A dead-ball situation led to the goal by Nobre in the 35th minute, who headed in from close range. Alex supplied the delivery.
Selçuk displayed good fitness despite playing the second of his only two 90 minutes this season, with the first one coming a few days ago in Lyon. His long shot tested Şenol in goal and Wederson`s free-kick at the other end was venomous but went over the crossbar.
A minute before the break the capital side should have capitalised on a good cross by Wederson went through untouched through our defence and three Ankaraspor players amongst them right in front of goal.
Nobre hit the bar early in the second half to get things going while his compatriot Alex made a great effort on goal despite being hassled by two defenders. His lob attempt was tipped away by Şenol who was in retreat.
Van Hooijdonk could have had a goal for himself but a diving header went wrong and sailed wide in the 66th minute.
Selçuk was sent off in the 74th minute for a second booking, the second red card a Fenerbahçe player has received this week.
Rüştü was called to make a string of great saves in the last 10 minutes, first palming away Wederson`s header followed by Jaba`s effort which was also smothered.
