AC Milan 2-2 Livorno
Italian champions AC Milan and city neighbours FC Internazionale Milano began the new Serie A season in underwhelming fashion as both were held to 2-2 draws in tonight's games.
Seedorf strikes
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti opted to rest Alessandro Nesta, Filippo Inzaghi, Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso with the away game against FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League in mind. Nevertheless, the home side needed only two minutes to break the deadlock, Dutch international Clarence Seedorf opening the scoring from close range after a fine dribble.
Penalty equaliser
Three minutes later and the match was back in the balance as Milan goalkeeper Dida was sent off for bringing down Vigiani in the penalty area and, with Christian Abbiati brought on in place of Jon Dahl Tomasson, Cristiano Lucarelli's penalty gave the substitute goalkeeper no chance and levelled the match.
Second for Seedorf
Although the newly-promoted visitors enjoyed the better of the first half, Milan restored their lead two minutes into the second period as Seedorf converted a Kaká pass for his and Milan's second of the night. Once more the visitors fought back, however, and earned a point midway through the half thanks to Lucarelli's fine free-kick. Livorno also ended the match with ten men following the added-time dismissal of Davide Balleri.
