Vonlanthen answers Kuhn call

Swiss coach Jakob Kuhn has included uncapped Under-21 and PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Vonlanthen in his provisional 23-man squad for UEFA EURO 2004™.

U21 action
The 18-year-old prodigy is currently in Germany at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Indeed he scored his side's opening goal in their second group game against Portugal on Sunday. Kuhn will hope Vonlanthen and the rest of his players come through tonight's friendly against Germany.

Change of heart
Last November, there was major controversy surrounding Vonlanthen when he threatened to make himself available for Colombia, where his mother was from, rather than Switzerland. However, he has since changed his mind, saying recently: "I'll be more than happy to accept Kuhn's call."

Missing players
Missing from the provisional squad of 26 named last month are defenders Remo Meyer and Stéphane Grichting along with striker Léonard Thurre, who picked up a calf injury in training on Sunday. The same day another Swiss striker, Marco Streller, was ruled out of the tournament when he broke his leg in training.
