Hamburg Ressurection
Despite an impressive run of form that has taken them into Champions' League qualification contention, nobody at Hamburger SV is talking about continental trips next season just yet.
Fifth-placed HSV are just two points behind third-placed VfB Stuttgart in the race to Europe, and further revealed their credentials for qualification with a dramatic 4-3 win at Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday. Yet, Dietmar Beiersdorfer, HSV's sports manager, refuses to talk about his side's chances. In an interview with HSV.de, Beiersdorfer said: "We still have nine games to go, and we are only looking at the situation game by game. If we qualify for European football at the end of the season by doing things that way, no-one will mind."
This low key approach marks a departure for a club used to European good times in the 1970s and 1980s. HSV won the European Cup in 1983 when current Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath scored the winning goal against Juventus in Athens.
