Benfica 4 - 0 Boavista

SL Benfica capitalised on slips by the four sides ahead of them before the weekend's matches to join FC Porto and Sporting Clube de Portugal at the top of the SuperLiga.

Boavista challenge
On paper, Benfica had the most difficult task as the top four entered the weekend, as they welcomed fifth-placed Boavista FC to the Estádio da Luz. But with Luião and Miguel both returning to the side after lay-offs, Giovanni Trapattoni's team took a while to find their stride. But after Simão Sabrosa's penalty had broken the deadlock six minutes before half-time, there was only going to be one winner. Nuno Gomes scored twice midway through the second period before Pedro Mantorras made it 4-0.
