FC Den Bosch 0 - 3 PSV

PSV cruised to a 0-3 win over FC Den Bosch in Stadium De Vliert on Sunday afternoon. The team of coach Guus Hiddink was never threatened and took all three points home to Eindhoven after a monotonous game without many exciting moments. Jefferson Farfán, Alex and Phillip Cocu had their names on the score sheet.

This game will probably not stick in the minds of the spectators for a long time, as it never was a proper game of football. The hosts did not fight to the bitter end and PSV, who controlled the game from start to finish, were content they did not have to employ full sail, following a hectic midweek UCL tie.

The opening goal was scored on the verge of half time. Farfán curled a free kick from the edge of the area past FC Den Bosch keeper Martijn van Strien; 0-1. The opener was the highlight of the first period, which turned into a fairly low-key affair: FC Den Bosch defended in a compact way and PSV found it hard to overcome the defensive obstacles. Moreover the visitors never upped a gear.

After the break the game continued in the same vein. FC Den Bosch lacked quality to give PSV a hard time and the Eindhoven team did not want to overstrain themselves. The pace of the game was still low, while PSV patiently waited for an opening. They doubled the advantage twenty minutes from final time; Mark van Bommel luckily found Alex, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net. It was the first time this season that the Brazilian defender netted a goal. With his goal the game was virtually wrapped up. The hosts realized it would be a mission impossible this afternoon and did not resist any more. PSV added a third goal on 74 minutes. Mark van Bommel took a corner and the ball fell to Phillip Cocu who could easily tap home. It was also his first league goal of the season. PSV head coach granted the Swiss international Johan Vonlanthen some playing time and Gerald Sibon was also brought on.

So PSV claimed another win, bagged all three points and went home. The hosts realize that they will soon have to collect their points in other games in order not to get into the relegation zone.

PSV defender André Ooijer must have been a content man: he returned from injury and played his 150th game in the service of PSV.

Goals: 41 Farfán, 68 Alex, 74 Cocu
