Gomes problem for PSV

PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is likely to miss the UEFA Champions League visit of Rosenborg BK next Tuesday as he recovers from a groin injury.

Scan required
The 23-year-old Brazilian, a summer signing from Cruzeiro EC, was hurt during the 2-0 Eredivisie victory against AFC Ajax last Sunday. After a scan showed up the problem, club doctors have prescribed rest and a special training programme. No date has yet been set for the player's return, although initial fears he could be out for as long as six weeks appear unfounded.

Contrasting news
Gomes, who has kept a clean sheet in the last five domestic matches, is PSV's second casualty this week after John de Jong was also hurt against Ajax. The midfielder will be sidelined for at least three weeks with a knee injury. However, there was better news for the Eindhoven team with the return to training of defenders André Ooijer and Alex after hamstring and toe problems respectively.
