Eusébio attending showpiece game

Iceland are hoping to set the attendance record at the Laugardalsvöllur stadium on August 18th when they welcome Italy for a friendly in the presence of Eusébio.

The Portugal legend was in his prime when the current stadium record of 18,194 for a European Champion Clubs' Cup tie between SL Benfica and Valur Reykjavík that ended 0-0, although the second leg saw the Icelandic side lose 8-1. Eusébio has agreed to be the Football Association of Iceland's guest of honour for the pre-2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying friendly, which is being held on the birthday of the city of Reykjavik.

Although the stadium has only around 7,000 permanent seats, 12,000 more people will be able to watch the game. Marcello Lippi will coach Italy for the first time.
