Govou in for stricken Giuly

AS Monaco FC captain Ludovic Giuly has been forced to withdraw from France's UEFA EURO 2004™ squad because of a torn abdominal muscle and he will be replaced by Olympique Lyonnais striker Sidney Govou.

Giuly was substituted early in this week's UEFA Champions League final, which Monaco lost 3-0 against FC Porto, and a scan today revealed that his injury would take around six weeks to heal, making him unavailable for the final tournament.

Santini confirmation
France coach Jacques Santini confirmed the news after his team's 4-0 win against Andorra in Montpellier. "We have thought about keeping Ludo but his recovery period is too long," he said.
