Mantorras Given Green Light To Return

Angolan striker Pedro Mantorras has finally been given permission by doctors to return to action for Benfica after missing nearly two full seasons with a serious knee injury.

Mantorras has been seeing specialists in Barcelona to overcome this potential career threatening injury, but after a lengthy lay-off he has been cleared to play.

Once dubbed the "new Eusebio," Mantorras captivated Benfica's supporters with is lightning quick speed and tricky step-overs but a serious knee injury suffered at the begining of the 2002/2003 season nearly ended his career.

But all that is behind him now, and the 21-year-old is eyeing a possible return this season.

"God willing, I would like to contribute this season. I know I can do it, but it's up to Camacho. I would love to play in the Portuguese Cup final against Porto," he said.

Mantorras has been doing some light training and says he would only need a couple of weeks to regain match fitness.
