AS Roma 1-2 AC Milan

AC Milan sealed a Coppa Italia semi-final against S.S. Lazio as a 2-1 victory against AS Roma in the second leg of their quarter-final earned a 4-2 aggregate success. Second-half strikes from Alessandro Nesta and Jon Dahl Tomasson gave the holders the win in the Stadio Olimpico, marking the third time Milan had beaten the Serie A leaders in 16 days.

Trailing 2-1 after the first match, Roma began brightly and midfield player Daniele De Rossi had a shot cleared off the line. Meanwhile, at the other end Brazilian winger Serginho narrowly failed to connect with a cross that flashed dangerously across the goal. Four minutes after the break, however, central defender Nesta put the visitors ahead, nodding Serginho's cross past Roma's reserve goalkeeper Andrea Zotti. Danish striker Tomasson added a second in the 57th minute, spinning round defender Christian Panucci on the edge of the area before shooting into the net.

Roma midfield player Alessandro Mancini pulled a goal back nine minutes from time, but Fabio Capello's side never looked capable of mounting an unlikely comeback and missed out on a possible meeting with their city neighbours Lazio in the last four.
