Abel Xavier coming home?

Former Liverpool Portuguese defender Abel Xavier may be coming back to Benfica, where he enjoyed arguably the best patch of his solid career.

Xavier has been in a slump since the 2002 World Cup debacle. First was his club, Liverpool, deciding to part ways with him even though putting in solid performances with the English giants. His next stop was Turkey, where he signed on with Galatasaray playing a central defence role that won him praise in western Europe. However Xavier wasn’t enjoying life in Turkey and rescinded his contract, and since then has been without a club. Abel Xavier has also been left out of the Portuguese national team since the World Cup.
