Red Star 1-2 Milan
Pippo Inzaghi was on the mark again to fire Milan into the Champions League group stage with a 2-1 win at Red Star Belgrade and celebrate president Silvio Berlusconi’s 1000th game at the helm of the club in fine style. The striker opened the scoring on 28 minutes, with a close-range header and Clarence Seedorf added a second on 79 minutes before the home side netted a consolation goal. The Rossoneri were set to face a red-hot atmosphere in the Marakana but rather than be intimidated, Carlo Ancelotti's side took the game to the hosts from the first minute and were never in any real trouble as they moved through the gears smoothly to put what had been a long and torrid summer well behind them.
