Arouna Koné gave PSV a 3-2 win over sc Heerenveen. As PSV enjoyed a victory themselves and some rivals drooped points, the team coached by Guus Hiddink moved up to the third place in the table.

Captain Phillip Cocu and Arouna Koné were inspirational for PSV in the Abe Lenstra Stadion. The captain led the example and was involved in the start of all the three moves that were finished coolly by Koné. The African, who effortlessly rounded his markers and proved to be a clinical finisher, was a constant handful. The gap between leaders AZ and Feyenoord is now only two points. The Alkmaar outfit will travel to Eindhoven in two weeks to meet PSV in a top clash in the Philips Stadium.

Bruggink wasted another chance to put Heerenveen on top after the break, but then Koné made his mark as a clinical finisher and soon guided PSV to a two-goal lead. Farfán won the ball on his own end and found Cocu, who produced a long ball. Koné outwitted two defenders before he mercilessly hammered home; 1-2. Ten minutes later Cocu headed the ball on and Koné again turned and rounded some defenders before coolly slotting home. Heerenveen keeper Waterman did not stand a chance; 1-3. Heerenveen reduced the deficit in the final stages when defender Seip cleverly kept possession and substitute Tarvajärvi prodded home the rebound from close range. The hosts had eight minutes left to salvage one point, but PSV held out.
