Ziegler joins Hamburg



HSV has delved into the transfer market again just hours before the transfer window closed. The object of their interest this time is the Swiss-born midfielder Reto Ziegler, who joins the Bundesliga club from the London-based Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs. The 19 year old youngster has agreed to join HSV on loan until the end of the current season.

Best youngster
Ziegler, who is currently on international duty with Switzerland, was voted most promising youngster in the Premier League last season. He played three times for Tottenham whilst in London: "We are delighted to have been able to sign Reto, who will improve the quality of our squad ", said the HSV sport director Dietmar Beiersdorfer on Wednesday (31.8.05).

Utility player
Coach Thomas Doll is also happy to have finally got his man: "Reto is a player with enormous potential. I am delighted that he has joined HSV". Ziegler, who is left footed, can either play in midfield as well as defence. Tottenham refused to have an option written into the deal, and reserve the right to take him back to London during the winter break should they see fit.
