Benfica trip a tribute to Fehér

SL Benfica have paid tribute to their late Hungarian international striker Miklós Fehér by sending a delegation to Fehér's hometown of Gyor to deliver a Portuguese championship medal to his parents.

Honour his memory
The entire Benfica first-team squad travelled to Hungary on Monday together with coach Giovanni Trapattoni and chairman Luis Felipe Vieira to honour the memory of Fehér, who died at the age of 24 during Benfica's league game at Vitória SC in Guimaraes in January 2004.

'Miki's gold medal'
Vieira said the trip represented the fulfilment of a promise to Fehér. "The last time we were here was for the funeral. I promised then I would give Miki the gold medal as soon as we got it. We won it this year and here we are to bring it home."

Museum visit
The Benfica party presented Fehér's parents with a title winner's medal and a copy of the Portuguese Superliga trophy that the club won on 22 May. The group also visited a museum dedicated to Fehér in Gyor before returning to Portugal on Monday night.
