HSV sack Klaus Toppmöller

HSV announced on Sunday morning that they have parted company with coach Klaus Toppmöller with immediate effect. The announcement was made at a press conference held by the club boss Bernd Hoffmann: "We have decided after assessing the home defeat against Bielefeld yesterday (0-2) and the sporting situation in general, to part company with Klaus Toppmöller and co-trainer Werner Melzer," explained Hoffmann.

Dolly takes over
From Monday (18.10.04) onwards the coach who has led the HSV amateur side to the top of the third division Thomas Doll, will take over first team matters. Doll, a former HSV player and German international, will be assisted by Ralf Zumdick, who Toppmöller brought to the club: "We are convinced of Dolls' qualities. He has developed well as a coach," said the HSV sport director Dietmar Beiersdorfer.
