Benfica Sign Zach Thornton
Benfica have signed American international goalkeeper Zach Thornton to a six-month contract on Sunday.
Thornton will replace Benfica's number back-up keeper Carlos Bossio.
Bossio is sidelined with an injured left shoulder and is expected to be out of action for a lengthy period of time.
Thornton is 30-years-old and has played for the reigning MLS champions Chicago Fire from 1998 to 2003.
He will be officially presented by the club on Wednesday.
Thornton is Benfica's second signing since the transfer market re-opened, as they brought Fyssas in from Panitinaikos.
Benfica announced on Saturday that they have released five players.
