De Jong extended his contract contract until 2007

John de Jong has extended his contract at UEFA Cup quarter-finalists PSV Eindhoven until the summer of 2007.

The 27-year-old, who joined PSV in 2000 from FC Utrecht, has added two more years to his contract. De Jong, an attacking midfield player, spent last season on loan at SC Heerenveen but this term the former Dutch Under-21 international has appeared regularly for PSV.

De Jong played five times in the UEFA Champions League group stage, scoring two goals including a last-minute winner against RC Deportivo de La Coruña. He said: "It gives a lot of satisfaction. It is not usual for a player to go on loan and then be offered a contract extension a year later."

PSV face Newcastle United FC in the UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg at the Philips stadium tomorrow.
