Arvid Smit and Michael Lamey will return next season

Two PSV players, on loan at other clubs, will return to Eindhoven. The club will strengthen the squad with the return of midfield player Arvid Smit (FC Groningen) and defender Michael Lamey (FC Utrecht). PSV intend to add midfield player Jasar Takak (currently on loan at FC Zwolle) to the squad as well. PSV.nl had an interview with 23-year-old Arvid Smit about his move to PSV next season.
What is your connection with PSV?
Arvid Smit: "I have always been an avid fan of the club, which is not an obvious thing, as I spent my childhood in Beverwijk, where I went to school with kids who were all Ajax fans. I started to support PSV, because I adored Romario. When he scored a hat trick in the legendary European Cup tie against Steaua Bucharest, I became a lifetime supporter.."

How were you linked with PSV?
"When I was with the Dutch first division side Telstar, PSV were interested in signing me. I completed a five-year deal with PSV, but then I had loan spells with, respectively, De Graafschap and FC Groningen. I have now become a more mature player, as I have played about 150 games as a professional football player."

Which position do you prefer?
"I do not focus on one particular place. In the FC Groningen team I often wear number ten, whereas I aspire to play on the right flank in midfield. But I can play as a left midfield player as well."

Are you inspired by other football players?
"I always watch Van Bommel and follow him, wherever he is on the pitch. I really like the fine performances of Redondo. And yes, Zidane is a magnificent player."

How have you developed the past few years?
"I can pass the ball much more quickly and I have gained more experience at playing at the highest level. Anyway I am very much motivated to be successful at PSV. I will do anything to be of value to the squad."

Do you prepare to move to Eindhoven?
"Oh yes, very much so. I am looking forward to it. When I used to be a season ticket holder, I was struck by the cosy atmosphere of the south of Holland. I always adapt quickly to new surroundings. I am from the west of Holland, but I have lived in the east and the north. Now it's about time I will live in the south. I can’t wait to be a PSV player!"
